Hitting the ground running is critical for developers who want to make modules for Ara, and today Toshiba and eInfochips have announced at the second Project Ara developers conference that they’re releasing a developers kit called the ARTOS12 made specifically for Ara 1×2 modules.
The development kit, not to be confused with the Project Ara MDK (module developers kit), is actually a piece of hardware featuring both MicroSD and USB slots. “Optional interfaces including UART, I2C, I2S, SPI, and GPIO on 1X2 modules can be supported with Toshiba T6WR6XBG general-purpose bridge,” says the eInfochips website. Additionally, the kit comes with USB drivers and the quick start documentation you would expect.
The announcement of this kit comes just in time for developers to get ready to launch their modules for the launch of the Project Ara market pilot that’s happening in Puerto Rico later this year.

The kit features MicroSD and USB slots enabling developers to store data and interface to external devices. The Toshiba T6WR6XBG general-purpose bridge used in the development kit supports optional interfaces such as UART, I2C, I2S, SPI, and GPIO on the 1×2 module. The Ara 1×2 module development kit also includes high-speed interfaces for connection to the application processor bridge, USB drivers and quick-start documentation. Engineering services, distribution, support, release management and product delivery of ARTOS12 Google Ara development kits is provided by eInfochips.
