Google Drive for Android updated w/ drag & drop file support, interface tweaks

In honor of Update Wednesday, Google this evening has started rolling out a new version of the Drive Android app. The update bumps the app to version 2.2 and focuses on improving navigation and usability throughout the interface.

First off, the update adds the ability to drag and drop your files. On the first launch after updating, you’ll see a new pop-up that explains how to take advantage of this new feature. When you hold down on a file, a new bubble will appear at the bottom of the interface informing you of how many files you’ve selected. After you’ve selected all the files you wish to move, simply drag the bubble to whichever folder you wish.

Today’s Drive update also brings a few minor tweaks to the slide-out navigation menu. You’ll notice that when you slide it out now, the status bar will become transparent. This is a change Google has been applying to all of its apps since it introduced Material Design.

The update is rolling out now, although it is a staged rollout and may take a while to hit your device. Keep an eye on the Play Store over the next few days.
