According to a report this morning from the Korea Times, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are about to get an Avengers makeover. In partnership with Marvel, the Korean company supposedly said that it will release “Iron Man versions” of its two flagships, assumably to help promote (as if it needed help being promoted) the recently-released Avengers: Age of Ultron film…
According to the report, the phone will be released at some point in May or June:
“The color of the new Iron Man phones will be red. We will decide on other details soon after discussions with Marvel Studio. It will be released either at the end of May or early June,” said Lee Young-hee, head of marketing for the company’s mobile division.
If you’ve seen the movie, you know that Samsung’s tablets and phones had a very prominent role—especially closer to the end of the film. Now we have confirmation that the partnership will be more of a two-way deal, with the release of this red Iron Man device and Marvel-themed “wallpaper, home screen icons and ring tones” that will be available to most Samsung devices after July 31st (and are already available on the S6 and S6 Edge).
When asked how the non-Avengers themed phones have been selling, Samsung’s mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun reportedly said “Cruising smoothly.”
