Now on Tap has been criticized for its lack of usefulness since its launch in October. Today, it’s receiving its first major update that adds new languages and now recognizes more types of information. The screenshot feature previous seen in the beta channel is also now rolling out again.
The update which started rolling out last night adds support for French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Korean speakers. At launch its feature was only available in English-speaking countries and its spread to a more global audience will certainly help.
Now on Tap now also recognizes more types of content when you use the feature. It now identifies when you have a flight or package tracking number and shows the appropriate information. These two features are already built into Google Search, Google Now and Inbox. Tap will now also recognize a news story when you scan a headline and show you related stories.
Also rolling out today is the screenshot feature that we reported on a few days ago in the beta version of the Google app. It now appears to be live for more people. Google promises that they will continue to add new languages and features to Now on Tap in the future.
