Google Fit’s last update in November added a new digital watchface and a challenge mode that trains users on how to do a number of exercises on their Android Wear device. Another Wear heavy update (version 1.56) this week, adds an activity screen that allows users to track their exercise’s progress from their watch.
The new walking, running, and biking activity joins the previous sit-up, push-up, and squat challenges. Unlike the challenges that train users on how to properly do an exercise, the new activities just provides a screen that tracks the progress of an exercise. It is accessible by sliding over to the fifth pane in the Wear Fit app or by going to the Fit Activity app.
Tapping on one of them will start a countdown and launch the activity screen. Users can choose up to three metrics to monitor their workout, including calories, distance, duration, pace, steps, and time of day. If ambient mode is enabled on the watch, the activity screen will remain and act as a watchface until you exit out of the app or pause/stop the exercise.
Users can return to activity screen by finding the Fit card on the main Wear timeline, sliding it over can also pause tracking. After finishing with the activity, Fit will display a summary of your workout. The activity screen is a nice and convenient addition for those who exercise using Google Fit. It is increasingly becoming one of the most feature rich apps on Android Wear.
