Inbox by Gmail update makes newsletters glanceable and adds a Pocket-like save feature

Since its launch in 2014, Inbox has been updated with many smart features to make managing email simpler. An update today adds a trio of new features to keep better track of Google Calendar events, shorten newsletters, and save links to view later.

Like how Inbox already bundles travel emails, such as reservations and flight information, the app will now show all messages related to a Google Calendar event. Tapping an event will now show all emails and highlight new details that might have changed.

In addition, email newsletters are gaining increasing popularity and so Inbox will now list the article in an email under the subject. Tapping into a newsletter will show a list of articles with an image preview and the first few lines. Scrolling to the bottom will show previous newsletters from the same sender.

Today’s last update sees Inbox becoming more than just an email client, but also a queue for articles you want to read later. Google notes that people often email themselves to save a link they want to get back to. The email client now has a ‘Save to Inbox’ feature to easily save links for later.

On Android or iOS, there is a new option in share menu that ask users whether they want to save or email something with a URL. The latter option will add articles to a ‘Saved’ section organized chronologically and with the ability to swipe away already read things. Additionally, there is also a new extension for Chrome that will save any link to Inbox on mobile or web.

The feature is rolling out now to Android, iOS, and the web. The ‘Save to Inbox’ share extension is available now.
