Acer R11 and Chromebook Pixel (2015) pick up Play Store support in latest Chrome OS update

After launching on the ASUS Chromebook Flip last month, Google is currently rolling out Play Store support for the Acer R11 and the latest Chromebook Pixel. This update comes in the form of Chrome OS version 53 which is available now via the Developer Channel.

Multiple Chromebook Pixel and Acer R11 owners are reporting the update hitting their devices via a Chromebooks community on Google+, through their own posts, and other miscellaneous sources.

To get this update yourself you’ll need to switch your device to the Developer Channel by heading into the settings menu, “About Chrome OS”, and then switch to the developer channel from there.

Many Chromebook users have been up in arms regarding the slow rollout of the Play Store to many Chrome OS devices, but now that Google has fulfilled its initial promise to update these first three devices in June/July, we can expect more devices to get the update over the coming months. Google has yet to announce which devices will pick up this update next.
