We’re less than 24 hours away from Google’s highly anticipated unveiling of the Pixel phones, but that’s not all we’re going to see. We’ve known since Google I/O that Google has been working on a special virtual reality headset for Daydream, and we even expected to see it at this event, but now we know the price tag too.
The best gifts for Android users
According to a report from Variety, Google will be launching its Daydream headset tomorrow with a price point of $79, undercutting competitive headsets such as the Gear VR by $20 or more, and PC-connected viewers by hundreds of dollars.
The Daydream viewer will use a smartphone as the display, but with a dedicated controller taking care of navigation similar to that of a Wii remote. Google’s own devices won’t be the only ones supported by this headset either as the company has worked with several Android OEMs such as Huawei and Alcatel to release Daydream-ready devices.
Just like with the Pixel smartphones, Google has apparently teamed up with HTC to manufacture this headset. As previously mentioned Google is expected to release more details about this headset tomorrow at its event, which we’ll be attending. The headset is expected to ship to customers as soon as later this month.
