ZTE is testing out Android Nougat for its $99 ZMax Pro [Update]

As the company prepares to release Android Nougat for its popular Axon 7 smartphone, ZTE is opening up access to an Android Nougat beta program for one of its less expensive devices, the $99 ZTE ZMax Pro.

To register for the program, users will need, of course, a ZTE ZMax Pro as well as an account on ZTE’s Z-Community to access the registration page. From there, users will need to enter in information such as their name, email, phone number, and others as well as agreeing to use ZTE’s debugging tool while using the beta.

ZTE is opening up applications to anyone with a ZMax Pro, but only in the United States. Not everyone who applies will be accepted, but needless to say we’re glad to see ZTE making an effort to bring a current version of Android to one of the best affordable devices on the market.

You can sign up for ZTE’s Nougat beta program here.

Update: ZTE has reached out to state that this beta program is actually not to update the ZMax Pro to Nougat, but rather to “enhance the current software.”

The beta project for ZMAX PRO expressed through this Z-Community thread – https://community.zteusa.com/thread/14262 – is to help enhance the current software on the device.  While we do not have any plans to push Android Nougat to the ZMAX PRO right now, we continue to seek feedback from consumers on all of our devices so we can enhance the user experience, which is what we are doing here.
