Eric Schmidt tells Google employees that Trump administration will do ‘evil things’

Executive chairman of Google parent Alphabet Eric Schmidt last week told employees that the Trump administration will do ‘evil things,’ reports Buzzfeed.

Schmidt’s remarks were made during the company’s weekly meeting at its headquarters in Mountain View, California, on January 26 [when he said the Trump administration] is “going to do these evil things as they’ve done in the immigration area and perhaps some others” …

His choice of words likely reflects Google’s original mission statement ‘Don’t be evil.’

Buzzfeed said that it was able to obtain a partial transcript of Schmidt’s comments, and that three other sources confirmed the veracity of the above quote.

While Google declined to comment, the remarks would be consistent with the company’s position on Trump’s anti-immigration measures. Google announced its largest ever crisis fund to deal with the impact of the immigration order, CEO Sundar Pichai described the measure as inflicting ‘painful personal costs‘ on employees and co-founder Sergey Brin joined protests in San Francisco.

Google also tweeted photos from an on-campus protest attended by 2000 of the company’s employees. While this was an event organized by employees rather than the company itself, Google announced its support for the protest and Pichai spoke at the rally.
