Many Google Pixel owners are experiencing random Bluetooth disconnects, issues with calls over Bluetooth

Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL are both fantastic devices, but they aren’t without flaws. Since launch, we’ve seen several issues pop up on the devices, including the speaker and problems with the camera. Google has been able to fix some of those via software updates, but now another issue is popping up ─ random Bluetooth disconnects.

Over the past couple of weeks, hundreds of reports have flooded Reddit and Google’s product forums (via Android Police) from both Pixel and Pixel XL owners who are seeing Bluetooth on their device toggle off completely at random, then turn back on immediately, and so on. Personally, I haven’t noticed this on my own Pixel XL, but it’s clear something has been happening.

What’s the cause? Many are pointing to Google’s most recent security patch which includes some other bug fixes for Bluetooth. It’s entirely possible that by fixing those issues, something else broke. One Google employee did mention, though, that Google is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. Currently, there are no workarounds.

In a separate issue, some Pixel owners are noticing a problem with phone calls made over Bluetooth. This is apparently caused by Google’s last update to its dialer application from February 10th. Apparently, that update is not allowing calls to be performed over Bluetooth, and restricting users to the phone’s earpiece or speaker.

This issue isn’t exclusive to the Pixel, though, as Google’s dialer app also works on Nexus devices. It’s unclear what the exact cause of this is, as rolling the application back to a previous version doesn’t fix the issue.
