Google will bring Pixel 8’s multilingual voice typing to the Pixel 7 series, too

One of the many new software features Google has delivered on its Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro is the ability for voice typing in Gboard to recognize multiple languages, being able to switch between them on the fly. “Soon,” multilingual voice typing will also arrive on the Google Pixel 7 series, too.

Multilingual voice typing was announced with the Pixel 8 series with Google noting that the language in use would show the difference. While I’m not a multilingual speaker, an in-person demo Google showed to 9to5Google was pretty seamless and impressive.

Google has now confirmed that the feature will make its way to older devices to. On a support page Google directly notes that multilingual voice typing on Gboard will come to the Pixel 7 “soon.”

If you use multiple languages, Assistant voice typing can now automatically detect your spoken language seamlessly available on Pixel 8+ (coming soon to Pixel 7). With your Assistant voice typing mic, you can find the new “Language tag” that shows the language that was detected as you speak. You can always switch languages manually by switching to the relevant language keyboard.

The updated support page was spotted by the folks over at Android Police, but there’s unfortunately no word on just how “soon” this could arrive. Also notable, Google makes no direct mention of this feature coming to Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold, but it seems reasonable to expect at least the latter to add support.
