First Chromecast with Google TV update of 2024 rolling out

Google is rolling out the first update of 2024 for the Chromecast with Google TV 4K.

STTL.231114.004 (from STTE.230915.005.S1) bumps the Android security patch level to Dec 2023. You also get “other bug fixes and performance improvements” with this 148MB update that took longer than usual to install on my device.

There’s no Chromecast Remote firmware update after installing. The last release was in early December with the October 2023 security patch.

For reference, Google delivered six system updates — January, April, May, July, October, December — to the Chromecast in 2023. That first one arrived at around the same time.

You’re still on Android 12 with this 2024 update, while we’re not seeing Fast Pair enabled on the Chromecast with Google TV yet. At the start of January, Google announced that Fast Pair support would be rolling out to the Chromecast “in the next month.” This will give you a “Connect now” prompt for seamless Bluetooth headphone pairing.
