Google Pixel March update sees ‘Battery information’ page disappear for some

The latest March Pixel Feature Drop has brought with it a slew of new functions and features, but annoyingly it has removed one useful addition in recent updates – the battery information section.

Android 14 QPR1 for Google Pixel phones added a rudimentary statistic for tracking device battery health. It can usually be found under Settings > About Phone > “Battery information.” The page shows the manufacturing date of your device and shows the “Cycle count” for the battery in your phone. Unlike on iPhone, there is no “Battery health” data, just the count of how many cycles the battery has gone through.

The OTA for the Pixel 5a and newer is not yet available in all regions at this stage. Pixel owners in the US will have to wait until March 11 for the 700MB+ update to arrive.

Current regional availability aside, after updating overnight, we’ve seen growing reports on the 9to5Google YouTube channel from people claiming to have lost the “Battery information” section from their Pixel Settings app. A couple of our test devices also no longer have the option after applying the March patch – likely indicating this is more than just a handful of devices with the issue. It isn’t clear if this affects all Pixel phones with the update at this stage.

Given it was added with the previous QPR update, this is likely a bug that has slipped through the cracks as I’m seeing the “Battery information” screen on my Pixel 8 running the February 2024 patch with no such issues. Hopefully, this bug can be squashed before US owners get the OTA update on their devices from next week – especially as QPR2 includes over 30 fixes for the Pixel 8 series alone.

If you have updated your Pixel and are missing the “Battery information” screen then let us know down in the comments section below.
