The OnePlus Open is arguably the best foldable smartphone available today and, while there’s not much we’d change, we’re certainly looking forward to its sequel. However, a “OnePlus Open 2” may end up being delayed to 2025 if some new rumors turn out to be true.
OnePlus debuted the Open late last year as the international version of the Oppo Find N3 which is sold in China. The device delivered on the best foldable hardware sold in the US, all while also bringing solid cameras and the tremendously great “Open Canvas” multitasking system.
But, apparently, a “OnePlus Open 2” and an “Oppo Find N5” won’t be coming later this year.
That’s claimed by @That_Kartikey, a leaker on Twitter/X. @chunvn8888, another fairly reliable source, offers more context, saying that the device isn’t canceled but simply pushed into 2025. The benefit of that would be that the device would run on top of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 instead of the Gen 3, which would be nearly a year old by the time the foldable was expected to be released.
While it’s a shame to think that OnePlus will be pushing back one of its best devices to date, the extra time in the oven may end up delivering a better product in the end. It’s worth noting that last year, the Open’s launch was pushed back several weeks at the last minute, and even then, there were some pre-release software issues. So a bit of extra time seems like a good thing.
