Oppo Find X8 series will launch globally with MediaTek chip, ‘Mag’ charger, shutter button

Oppo just announced its latest Find X8 flagships in China, and also confirmed plans to launch the phones globally for the first time in a while.

The Oppo Find X8 series is launching in China as the company’s latest camera-focused flagship. Both devices are running on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 chipset and a few key features.

Oppo Find X8 Pro is the more impressive of the two, offering a 6.78-inch display, massive 5,910 mAh battery, and four camera sensors on the back. Those are all 50MP, with two of the cameras being telephoto lenses – one at 3x and the other at 6x.

In the camera department, as previously teased, there’s also a shutter button similar to Apple’s new “Camera Control.” The touch sensitive strip can be pressed to open the camera, but also be swiped to control zoom as Android Authority notes. GSMArena adds that the functionality is called the “Quick Button” and works with a double-press. There’s also an Alert Slider on the other side of the device.

Stepping down to the base Find X8, the package doesn’t change a whole lot. The display is smaller at 6.59-inches, the 6x telephoto camera is removed, and the batter is smaller at 5,630 mAh. But it still has the same chip and core specs.

Something else Oppo is introducing with these phones, though there’s no imagery yet, is “Mag” charging accessories. These work with the 50W wireless charging and work like MagSafe, though, the functionality isn’t built into the phones, but rather first-party cases.

The Oppo Find X series brings some of the best smartphones, especially in regards to cameras, but hasn’t had a global launch in some time. The last major global release was the Find X5, the same device that contained Oppo’s first dedicated imaging chip.

That changes this year as Oppo’s Pete Lau has confirmed that the Find X8 series will land on the global stage. This almost surely won’t include the US, but we’ll be interested to get more details upon Oppo’s announcement, hopefully in the not-too-distant future.

In China, Oppo Find X8 starts at CNY 4,199 while the Pro starts at CNY 5,299.
