Fitbit redesigns Weight stats page, preps LLM ‘Sleep Lab’ and logging

The modernization of the Fitbit app continues with a redesign of the Weight stats page and logging experience, while Google is working on a new “Sleep Lab.”

Fitbit has redesigned the Weight page to be inline with the vast majority of other stats as of version 4.30 on Android (this is not yet on iOS). There’s now a “Day” tab, while you can wipe the carousel for “All time.” Sharing via an infographic has been removed.

Old vs. new

Fitbit’s Log Weight screen accessed from the FAB (floating action button) also sees a redesign with modernized text fields to match Sleep and Temperature. The weight sharing feature has been removed, while you can now specify a time for the entry.

Meanwhile, Fitbit 4.30 reveals work on a new “Sleep Lab” that you should be able to test soon: “This experimental feature summarizes connections between your sleep and elements of your day-to-day experience (context, emotions and behavior).”

Referred to as a “sleepcoach” in strings, This is not yet live and will initially be tested on an opt-in basis before a wider launch. It might also require a Fitbit Premium subscription.

When you log data in this experience, this feature may analyze your log to make connections to your Fitbit data. This can include:

  • Health and wellness data related to your sleep, such as your steps, heart rate, and sleep data
  • The content of your logs

As part of this, you complete a “daily sleep journal to reflect, identify habits, and track progress.” You will be able to answer suggested prompts by typing or recording a short note:

  • “What went well yesterday, and anything that caused stress or frustration”
  • “Things you did that could’ve affected how well or poorly you slept”
  • “Anything you remember that could’ve disrupted your sleep last night”

Fitbit takes all that and analyzes it with (LLMs) large language models to “make connections for you, including trends, summaries, explanations, and illustrative charts.” You will get “sleep insights”:

Get daily summaries, highlighting how your habits and behaviors affect your sleep

Check in on your progress each week, and get tailored, actionable suggestions for better sleep
