For the past few days, Google Wallet for Android users haven’t been able to tap-to-pay with PayPal. Google is aware of the issue and working on a fix.
The issue emerged at the start of 2025, with in-store NFC (Google Pay) transactions failing and resulting in an error on card readers/terminals. Before the New Year, things were working normally. This problem is widely impacting all Android phones and PayPal accounts.
As of today, Google has acknowledged the issue on the Wallet Help page with a banner: “There is an ongoing issue with PayPal in-store payments, but a fix will be rolled out soon.”
Android Pay gained support for PayPa back in 2017. Last year, Google Wallet on Wear OS was updated with support. The ability to add PayPal as a payment method in Google Wallet is only available in the US and Germany. In Google Wallet, tap the Add to Wallet FAB > Payment card to link.
