Walmart’s best Google TV box is low on stock, and the timing is right for a sequel

The Walmart Onn 4K Pro box is one of the best Google TV devices available today, but it’s also due for a sequel and, right on cue, stock for the existing model is starting to run low.

If you go over to Walmart in search of the Onn 4K Pro box, you might see a message that the Google TV box only has a few units left, or that it’s out of stock entirely, depending on your location. This comes after a few months of the device being discounted to just shy of $45, about $5 off of its usual price tag.

This low-stock warning comes just as it’s nearing time for a sequel and, as AFTVNews points out, it fits right into Walmart’s pattern.

The way in which Walmart releases its new Google TV devices is strange, to say the least. For the Onn 4K, a streaming dongle, Walmart previously listed the prior generation as out of stock for a few months before the sequel started popping up on store shelves and, eventually, was formally released. The Onn 4K Pro and Onn 4K Plus both also saw odd releases, with units showing up for purchase in local stores weeks before the retailer fully released either device to the public.

If Walmart’s pattern holds true, we’re probably just a few months out from a new Onn 4K Pro device, or at least something similar. The retailer also tends to update its streaming devices every other year so, again, we’re nearing time for a refresh as the Onn 4K Pro made its debut in mid-2024.

What would you want from a sequel?
