Report claims OxygenOS and Realme UI set to be discontinued

The woes for OnePlus continue as a new report suggests that OxygenOS is being discontinued alongside Realme UI.

While OxygenOS has long since become a fork of ColorOS, which is the software build found on Oppo devices. While it left behind the clean aesthetic that was a hallmark of early OnePlus phones, the decision to pool resources as part of a unified platform with Oppo devices led to a mini renaissance of sorts.

The slow demise of OnePlus could be set to continue, as according to Indian outlet Smartprix, which published information through an industry source claiming that OxygenOS and Realme UI are set to be discontinued in the coming months. They go on to state, through an Oppo insider, that as part of an “aggressive restructuring,” OnePlus and Realme will be fully integrated into the Oppo brand and migrate to ColorOS across all existing smartphones.

Given how similar ColorOS and OxygenOS are today, it’s actually no great shock that it would be discontinued. It was almost inevitable, and it has been a skin atop Oppo’s software so far back as the Nord 2.

While this could be very disappointing for fans, it follows months of speculation, closure of global offices, and, recently, the promotion of Oppo products on OnePlus online storefronts. Realme had already merged with OnePlus as recently as April, which was a further nail in the coffin for the one-time “Flagship Killer” brand.

What’s more, OnePlus products are currently listed as “Out of stock” on the official UK storefront, suggesting this could be the final nail in the coffin for the once-darling of Android. If OxygenOS is discontinued, it’s unclear how the company will handle the software migration and how it will inform owners and fans.
