Google Pixel sees ‘highest-ever’ quarterly sales on the back of Pixel 9 launch

Google has never been a huge player in the smartphone market, but Pixel sales continue to grow. According to a new report, Q3 2024 saw the “highest-ever” quarterly sales for Google Pixel, right as the Pixel 9 series hit the market.

In a new report from Counterpoint Research, the smartphone market as a whole in Q3 2024 saw an uptick of 2%, great news following a few years of lessening demand. The top five smartphone makers continues to hold steady, with Samsung at the top, down to 19% versus 20% the same time last year. Apple held at 16% year-over-year, while Xiaomi jumped up to 14%. Oppo and Vivo round out the top five at 9% each.

But outside of the top contenders, there are some interesting stats.

Counterpoint says that both Motorola and Huawei are seeing roughly 30% year-over-year growth on the global stage, while Motorola also saw its highest-ever sell-through volume in the quarter.

The same can be said of Google Pixel.

While there’s no numbers to share, Counterpoint says Google saw its “highest-ever smartphone volumes in a quarter in Q3.” This comes on the back of two separate launches. In May, just a couple of months prior to Q3’s start, Pixel 8a launched, with sales becoming more common through July and the rest of the Summer. Meanwhile, in August, Google launched the Pixel 9 series, which has clearly made an impact. Again, no specific numbers were shared, but with this being the highest quarter Google has ever had, it’s pretty obvious that the Pixel 9 series has started off with a bang.

In 2023, Google hit a “milestone” of shipping 10 million Pixel phones in a year, and kicked off 2024 being named the “Best Smartphone” at MWC. Google has also seen explosive growth in Japan, and is also seeing stronger adoption in North America.
