Back in March, Waymo began opening up to the public in LA. The autonomous Waymo One service is now available to “anyone in Los Angeles.”
In October of 2023, the Waymo One Tour kicked off a six-neighborhood preview that involved invite codes and ended this March. After that, Waymo started gradually letting people on from the waitlist.
As of today, you can take “fully autonomous rides 24/7” across “Santa Monica, Hollywood Boulevard, USC, and everything in between,” or 79 square miles with plans to expand. (Earlier this year, it was 63 square miles.)
With the Waymo Driver at the wheel, people are reclaiming their time in LA traffic to be more productive – or not – as they wish.
You will be taking rides in an electric Jaguar I-Pace that seats four, with access to the trunk for storage. Waymo says nearly 300,000 people joined the waitlist, with riders taking “hundreds of thousands of paid trips across the city and highly rated them at 4.7 / 5 stars on average.” A Waymo survey says “98% are satisfied with our service and 96% find it useful.”
Waymo warns that “car availability may be limited and prices may be higher during busy times like nights and weekends” at launch.
Los Angeles joins full service in San Francisco and Phoenix, with the Waymo One app available for Android and iOS.
