Spotify cracks down on ‘Spotify Mod’ piracy app on Android

“Spotify Mod,” an app used to pirate Spotify Premium features on Android, has been disabled.

For a while now “Spotify Mod” has been available as an app that allows users to access features on Spotify that would otherwise be paid. The app, which was a modified version of the standard Spotify app for Android, has stopped working over the past few days.

Users report (via MySmartPrice and The Indian Express) that the app no longer shows playlists or saved songs, and also cannot stream music. Effectively, the app has been rendered useless, and clearly in a move that was made by Spotify directly. While some users continue to hunt for working modded versions to continuing pirating the features, some have warned that certain APKs are infected with malware.

These modded APKs were always breaking Spotify’s terms of service, so it was only a matter of time until an action like this was taken.

In many regions, Spotify is currently offering Premium at heavy introductory discounts. In the US, that includes a 3-month free trial.
