After being exclusive to the United States, the first physical Google Store outside of the region is coming to Tokyo, Japan, in the coming months.
A post from the Google Japan blog details just what to expect from the first physical Google Store in the region, with a mockup of what the storefront could look like when it opens in the Omotesando district of Tokyo “this summer.” This would make the Omotesando store the 11th in Google’s growing physical shop portfolio, following a number of successive years of growth for the firm’s hardware efforts.
If you’re wondering why Japan, well, over the past few years, it has been one of the major hotspots for Google, with the Pixel lineup selling especially well in the region, despite a fairly small global market share. The Google Store Omotesando will be the “flagship” offering outside of the United States and will be found on the first floor of the Omokado Tokyu Plaza, Omotesando. This high-end fashion-focused mall hints that Google means business in the area.
The frontage of this mockup even includes a take on Shinjuku’s famous 3D cat billboard, which creates a faux pop-out effect. Instead of a furry friend, the corner billboard has “Coming soon” as a placeholder with other signature Google Store design traits, but with some classic Japanese styling, such as the wooden baton framing as part of the storefrontage.
Visitors can expect to see the vast array of brand new Pixel devices, support and service options, plus all kinds of exclusive merchandise – or even exclusive Pixel colors. Workshops are also noted, with advice and support for existing Pixel and Fitbit owners alongside the ability to pick up online orders from the Google Store Japan website when the store opens later this year.
