Nest Thermostat appears on Google support page, coming to the Play Store soon?

Earlier this year, Google acquired smart thermostat maker Nest for the huge sum of $3.2 billion. This led to speculation that the two companies would work together, with Google using its online retail outlet to boost sales of product. Since the acquisition, however, nothing has come to fruition between the companies, with both continuing business as normal. It looks like, however, that Google may soon start to sell the Nest thermostat via the online Play Store.

As first noticed by Droid-Life, the “Nest Learning Thermostat” was briefly listed on Google’s support page for country availability for devices on the Play Store. The device was listed as being available in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, but it is not actually available for purchase in any of those countries. Clicking on the link presented on the support page took you to the product page of the Moto G Google Play Edition.

There are several possibilities with this. It could be that Google is intending to sell the Nest thermostat via Google Play very soon, and that whoever is in charge of the support page just got a little excited. It could also be that Google has no intentions of selling the device and that the support page listing is a total error. Or, Google could be planning to put the Nest up for sale on the Play Store, alongside the “EnergySense” app we saw leak last December.
