We know that Google is partnering with a few more hardware manufacturers to flesh out its Android Wear offerings, but some FCC tests may be evidence (via SammyToday) that Samsung is planning to introduce its Gear-branded Android Wear smartwatch very soon.
The FCC documents reveal a watch, specifically named SM-R382, that is seemingly 10mm shorter than the Gear 2. The Gear 2 has dimensions of 36.9 mm x 58.4 mm, and this watch is 37 x 46 mm.
Notably, the device falls in line with the same naming scheme as the Gear 2 ( SM-R38x), but Samsung’s recent trademark filing for the Galaxy Wear name suggests that the device may stray slightly from that name for this device made for Google’s smartwatch operating system.
It’s pure speculation at this point, but Samsung was indeed announced as a future Android Wear hardware partner at the time of the OS’ announcement, and this is a yet-to-be-announced watch from the company that surfaced just two weeks prior to Google’s I/O developer conference.
