For a long time, owners of Sonos hardware have been disgruntled with the inability to access their music collection from Google’s Play Music service. Sonos provides slick hardware that pulls in music collections from various services, and starting today the two companies have announced that Google Play Music is now officially supported. That means that you’ll be able to play music to Sonos directly through an updated Google Play Music app as well as through the Sonos controller app (as pictured above). The announcement was made today in a brief tweet by Google and a blog post on the Sonos website.
Now available around the world, you can stream directly to Sonos from within the Google Play Music app on your Android device, or simply stream Google Play Music from your Sonos app to any Sonos player throughout your home.
Sonos hardware has become popular among users and reviewers for its slick combination of audio hardware and software that taps into various music services and libraries in order to easily stream audio throughout a home or other environment. The Sonos controller app also provides controller and navigation features that makes managing multi-room setups easier and Sonos sells hardware in pieces ranging from a $199 wireless speaker to a $699 sub.
The new features are available to Sonos users in 25 countries– everywhere that Google Play Music is currently supported-– starting today. To start the experience, users will have to login with a Google account within the Sonos app, while playing directly from the Play Music app to Sonos systems will require the Google Play Music app for Android.
