That $35 stick is looking less and less like a novelty item and more and more like a serious option for those looking to view content on their TV as developer Koushik Dutta has created an Android app to allow both photos and video to be streamed from a smartphone …
The catch? You can’t have it yet. The app uses the preview version of the Google Cast SDK (a set of tools designed to allow software developers to create apps that interact with Chromecast), and Google doesn’t yet allow developers to distribute apps using that version.
But since Google’s own developer page specifically refers to phones and tablets, and has an illustration of streaming from a phone, we imagine it won’t be long before the functionality is available to all – either via this app or an official Google update.
Google Cast is a screen-sharing technology that lets a user send and control content like video from a small computing device like a phone, tablet, or laptop to a large display device like a television.

The device proved so popular that the Netflix offer bundled with it ran out within 24 hours of launch.
