The Samsung Galaxy S5, expected to be announced in March and released in April, will come in two variants, a higher-spec one in a metal case and a lower-spec one in a plastic case, claims SamMobile, citing an anonymous ‘insider.’
First, let’s get the most mysterious thing about the Galaxy S5 out of the way: Yes, it will come in both metal and plastic versions as has been rumored, with the metal version costing around 800 Euros and the plastic model coming in at around 650 Euros …
The source also suggests the metal-cased version may have a 64-bit Exynos CPU, while the plastic version will have a Snapdragon 805, an updated version of the 800. The new Exynos chip is reportedly able to handle LTE.
Samsung has previously implied we should expect something new design-wise from the S5. SamMobile suggests the metal version may be named the Galaxy F, though it would seem an odd idea to give metal and plastic versions such different names, or to break with the simple numbering tradition.
Other specs were consistent with what we’ve heard before:
- QHD (2,560×1,440) Super AMOLED display
- Exynos 6 / Snapdragon 805 processor
- 16-megapixel camera
- Android 4.4 KitKat
There was no word on the Iris scanner Samsung has hinted at.
