The Galaxy S5 may have just hit store shelves and the hands of users, but it seems as if Samsung is already planning an upgraded version of its flagship device. According to a report from SamMobile (via Phandroid), the Galaxy S5 Prime will launch in June. In addition to the quad-HD (2560×1440) display, the device would also feature higher-end specs than the Galaxy S5:
“The device could debut the new octa-core Exynos 5430 processor that sports an integrated Intel LTE modem, clock speeds of up to 2.1 GHz on the powerful Cortex-A15 cores and 1.5GHz on the low-power Cortex-A7 cores, and the Mali T6XXX GPU rated at 600MHz.”
Rumors also point towards the device potentially carrying a metallic design, though that seems unlikely at this point.
To add more validity to the likelihood of this device’s existence, a variation of the Galaxy S5 with the model number of SM-G906S has appeared on Samsung’s official website. That same device has appeared before in graphics and benchmarking software, where it was indicated that the device had a 2560×1440 display.
The Galaxy S5 Prime looks to be Samsung’s answer to the upcoming LG G3, which is also rumored to include a quad-HD display, as well as other state-of-the-art specs. With the Galaxy S5 having just launched worldwide, it will be interesting to see whether or not there is a public backlash for such a quick release cycle.
