System dump reveals LG G Watch details including default apps, Snapdragon 400 chipset, background images

Yesterday we mentioned the boot logo for the LG G Watch that had leaked to the Internet, and with it came what might be the next official Android logo. This information surfaced from an LG G Watch system dump leaked on Twitter last night, and a quick dig through it reveals some more interesting tidbits of information about the device…

A file called build.prop within the firmware revealed that the device’s internal codename is “Dory,” interestingly following suit with the Nexus device line (via Phandroid). Previous rumors suggested that Google would be making this watch its “Nexus” device of choice, and a codename in line with that family seems to suggest that may be the case.

The device, according to this dump, will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset (MSM8226), a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor downclocked to 787MHz (via GSMArena), and Adreno 305 graphics. This hardware will be running Android 4.4W, which assumably refers to this “Wear” version of Android KitKat.

Additionally, a quick unpacking of the system dump reveals a set of applications that will be included with the device by default, most notably are listings in the “apk” folder for an alarm app, a compass app, a stopwatch, and a timer.  Also listed are apk files for Bluetooth, Google Maps “Micro” (which we can assume is the smaller, less capable version of Maps that we’ve seen on video), and a “DeskClockMicroApp”.

Also found in the system dump are a wide variety of background images that will be shipping with the G Watch, and while there were dozens of them, we’ll embed just a few samples for your viewing pleasure below. Designs vary widely, including everything from beautiful mountain ranges to playful cartoon balloons.

As an aside, Google yesterday posted to its Android Developers blog an Android Wear design story, giving insight into how to appropriately design for both square and round screen types, as well as reiterating on the implications that come with designing for a wearable form factor. With Google I/O on the horizon, it’s definitely exciting to see more details emerge about the Android Wear platform.

The LG G Watch should be launching at sometime this month, and reports have pegged it at a price somewhere near €199, but also suggest a price of $199 in the U.S.
