Google Play Store update rolling out with new Material Design inspired look

Last week, screenshots of an upcoming Play Store redesign leaked, showing off a much cleaner, Material Design inspired design, and today, the update finally started rolling out to users. The update bumps the Play Store to version 4.9.13 and packs a variety of enhancements and changes.

The biggest changes with this update come to the app, book, movie, and music detail pages, which have been totally redesigned to include large “hero” videos, a heavier focus on +1s, a much cleaner look, and new animations. Other changes include the ability to view app descriptions and change logs in a full screen mode. Although, you can only now view change logs for apps that you have installed on your device and they now appear in place of the app description section. Information such as the version number, last update time, and number of downloads is now located in the full-screen description, as well.

Aside from the major changes to the app information pages, the rest of the Play Store app remains unchanged. We suspect that this update is only a sign of what’s to come for the Play Store and Material Design. The rest of the app will probably get redesigned eventually, as well.

The update is rolling out now, although it is a staged rollout so it could take a few days to hit your device.
