ASUS ZenWatch appears on Google Play for $199 after much pricing confusion

The ASUS ZenWatch, which appeared to be for sale at Best Buy a couple of days ago at the price of $229.95, now has a page on the Google Play store—and a price of $199. Best Buy has since corrected its mistake, but this new page confirms that the price of the watch will indeed be the lower figure. The device isn’t yet available for purchase, but the Play Store says that it’s “Coming soon.”

The story behind this device’s launch is a confusing one, with initial reports suggesting that the device would cost $199. This has of course turned out to be true, but much of the Android community was left with confusion when the device originally launched at a price point $29 higher. Many customers actually paid the higher price, but Best Buy is reportedly already refunding the difference.

One of the main reasons people were so confused by Best Buy’s $229 launch price was that ASUS itself had already confirmed that the watch would be launching at Best Buy on the 9th for $199.

ASUS started prepping for the launch of this device over a week ago, releasing 3 apps on the Google Play Store that act as companions for the device. The first, ZenWatch Manager, is the most basic and lets you set up the watch and adjust its main settings.  ASUS also released ASUS Remote Camera and ASUS Wellness, which provide even further functionality to the Android Wear watch.
