The LG G4 has been around for a couple of months now, and since launch there’s been enough time for a handful of case-makers to get their wares to market. Although there might not be as many options as there are for Galaxy S or HTC One owners, there are still a good few cases on the market which I think you should consider. Unless you have a leather-backed G4, in which case, don’t bother. All the cases in this list came with a warning that they aren’t compatible with the leather back, or will probably ruin it over time…
INCIPIO OCTANE
Incipio’s Octane case is simple, but effective. The back is made from a translucent hard plastic, with a slightly rough finish. The edges are a rubberized material finished with an attractive honeycomb design in either black, or a selection of bright neon colors including green, blue, pink and purple. It grips really well to the phone, and the combination of materials does a great job of both protecting against scratches on the back and impact to the corners and sides.

SPIGEN RUGGED ARMOR
Out of all the cases on the list, Spigen’s Rugged Armor case is the cheapest. Full retail is normally $14.99, but at time of writing, there’s currently a $2 discount on Amazon. I like the Rugged Armor for a few reasons. Of course, great value for money definitely comes in to it, but I actually like the design. A lot. The soft-touch, matte finish on the back makes it very comfortable to hold.
It’s all made mostly from one material, a relatively pliable rubber. It bends and folds pretty easily in the hand, but there’s enough of it to offer adecuate protection for your LG G4. There are two sections finished with a glossy carbon-fibre effect to add a little flourish of style. To top it off, there’s the inclusion of a thin, flimsy kickstand which serves its purpose in allowing you to watch movies hands-free, although it isn’t the most sturdy of stands.
OTTERBOX SYMMETRY
Otterbox has a reputation for making somewhat bulky and unwieldy, but super-protective cases for smartphones. The Symmetry series is the company’s effort at slimming it down, but still offering great protection. But that protection comes at a cost.
The Symmetry is made of two materials, fused together. The back is a hard, matte-finish plastic while around the cutouts for the ports, IR blasters and display is a slightly flexible and incredibly durable rubber-like material. What’s more, the inside is strengthened by a sturdy triangular frame. All in all, it’s well made, and almost certainly the most durable and protective case on the list.

Amazon (no pink) – $37-$39
INCIPIO DUALPRO CF
Incipio’s been making DualPro cases for years and they all share virtually the same design makeup. It’s a flexible, rubber inner sleeve with a rigid plastic shell on the outside. What makes the CF version different is that the plastic outer shell has an attractive carbon fiber design. It’s well-fitting, easy to apply and offers great protection. Best of all, it only comes in one color combination: Black/Black.
SPIGEN NEO HYBRID
Of all the cases I’ve tried, I think the Neo Hybrid is probably the best looking. I love the tiny raised crosses all over the back. They not only add a little style, but also grip when holding it. The case also happens to be unusual, in that it’s made of two separate parts: A rubber case, with a thin plastic bumper.
I’ve used cases similar to this in the past, and have always found the plastic bumper prone to coming off easily. That’s no issue with the Spigen case, in fact, I’d suggest that it’s almost too difficult to remove the two parts from each other, especially when they’re on the phone.
Amazon (Gray/Gold/Silver) – $19.99
NO CASE OPTION – DBRAND SKIN
If I’m completely honest, more often than not, I’m a no-case kinda guy. It’s not that I like to be risky with my devices, it’s just that 90% of my life is spent sat at a desk typing, editing or shooting videos. The probability of someone like me damaging my phone is about as high as the chances of there being a proper summer in England.
I don’t particularly like the pattern and feel of the grey plastic back, so I ordered one of dbrand’s skins. It’s cheaper than buying a case, and offers me the ability to customize the look of the phone. It sort of looks like leather, but is definitely vinyl. I have to warn you, anyone planning on going this route, be prepared for a really fiddly application process. The skins are so precise, you have to be fastidious in applying it, and prepared to melt your fingers off with a hair dryer.
Other Options
Of course these aren’t the only cases out there for the LG G4, the ones listed just happen to be the ones I’ve tried and tested and found to like. The manufacturers offer other models of cases, and there are plenty more to be found on Amazon. Although I haven’t tested them personally, there are a couple of other cases that look decent enough to get a mention.
The Caseology Wavelength series features individual cutouts for the LED flash and laser-autofocus sensor. They’re almost IronMan-like in design and come in a variety of colors starting from $15.99 (MSRP $34.99)
If you want something rugged, without having to shell out a hefty amount of cash for an Otterbox case, you could give the Supcase full-body rugged holster case a spin. It’s available for around $20 and comes in 5 different colors, including the attractive, bright colors in the image above.
