Some Nexus 5 owners on T-Mobile reporting worsened reception on Android Marshmallow

Never does a software update — of any kind — land without some group of users believing that it caused more problems than it solved. With Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which Google starting pushing out yesterday, it looks like Nexus 5 owners who use T-Mobile are that minority group of people. Apparently, Marshmallow is causing some problems with reception for these users…

This comes all via a thread on the T-Mobile subreddit, with one Redditor saying “I have having significantly worse reception on a Nexus 5 after the Android 6 update. I am not connecting on LTE in many locations where I did previously.” A T-Mobile employee, who regularly browses the community, also mentioned issues. “I’ll be reporting this internally too. I noticed the exact same thing,” the user said.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this, but it’s worth noting that there are many different ways that these phones could have been updated to Android Marshmallow. An OTA update could have been installed either manually or via the Settings app, or these users could have manually flashed of a fresh factory image. Since there’s many potential causes of these issues, we can’t say for sure who is and isn’t affected.
