Google launches experimental Delhi Public Trasnport Offline app

Google has today released a new app called Delhi Public Transport Offline and, well, most people probably don’t need it. But if you do happen to live in Delhi and would like a very simple app to help you get around town via public transportation, today’s your lucky day — it’s free, and it’s packed with lots of features that might make a quick download worth your time…

The app is notably barebones, which makes sense in a part of the world where (what Americans would consider) bottom-of-the-market budget phones are the norm. But while its design is definitely not Material-ized and pretty, the app is pretty capable. You can get offline directions and timetables for the Delhi Metro and bus, as well as notifications (online) bus news and delay info.

Here’s the complete app description:

The Delhi Public Transport offline app will search for Delhi Metro and bus directions and timetables without requiring Internet data. It will also notify you of Delhi Metro and bus transit news and delays through the app (this feature requires Internet).

Features:
• Route planning and directions for Delhi Metro and bus. Get directions to any DMRC metro station or Delhi bus stop. Supports DMRC Metro, DTC bus, Gurgaon Rapid Metro, and DIMTS Orange buses. (works offline)
• Look up timings and schedules for any Delhi Metro line or Bus number. (works offline)
• Get notified about Delhi transit news and major Metro delays. (requires Internet)

This is an experimental app from the Google Maps team designed from the ground up to make it easier for New Delhi residents to get around on public transit.

We would love to hear your feedback. Please let us know how well the app is working for you and what we can do to make it more useful by clicking the feedback button at the top of the app. If you like the app, there is a button to share it with your friends.

Because this is an experimental app, features may change quickly based on usage and feedback from our users.

You can grab the app right now on the Play Store for free.
