OnePlus X pricing seemingly leaks as OnePlus 2 invite expiration is extended

OnePlus’ next handset has been the subject of many a post in recent days and weeks. Dubbed the OnePlus X, one of the only things we’ve been unclear on is the price. We’ve known all along that it won’t be a OnePlus 2 replacement, but rather, a more budget-friendly phone. A poster leaked by MyDrivers suggests the price will be 1699 Chinese Yuan, roughly $267 USD at time of writing…

If the leak is genuine, it adds credence to rumors that it would cost around $250. As a reference, the current ‘2016 Flagship Killer’ starts at $329 for the 16GB model (which you can’t buy, even with an invite). The only available model is the 64GB version which ships for a $389. By pricing the OnePlus X somewhere between $50-$140 less than its high end device, OnePlus is arguably going back its roots; offering a competitive product at a very affordable price point.

The next OnePlus device is going to be announced at an event in London later this week, and will likely be available to order shortly afterwards. It’s rumored to feature a glass front and back, and be available in white and black flavors. What’s more, it’s set to feature a respectable spec sheet, with components and features similar to the original OnePlus smartphone. We’re expecting a Snapdragon 801-powered device with a full HD 5-inch display and with 3GB RAM inside. The leak above suggests dual SIM support will be included too.

As pricing for its unreleased model leaks, OnePlus officially announced via its Facebook page that invites for the OnePlus 2 no longer self-destruct after 24 hours. If you receive an invite for the OP2, it’ll now last a full three days, meaning you have three times as long to decide and weigh up whether you want to snag one. It’s a good move, but we still can’t help but feel the company should stop the invite system altogether and offer the devices for sale like a ‘proper’ phone maker.
