Getting used to a new keyboard can be tough for many and it’s one of the primary reasons I’ve always stuck with the Google Keyboard on my devices. However that all changed when Chrooma Keyboard was originally released last year. I instantly switched and now several months later, that keyboard has hit version 3.0. In this version Chrooma not only adopts several features from Google Keyboard 5.0, but also adds several awesome new features of its own. Let’s take a quick look.
First let’s talk about what’s familiar in this update. Major changes to Google’s own keyboard such as the ability to use the space bar as a cursor and key borders have made their way over along with a one-handed mode — all very welcome in this keyboard app.
What originally made Chrooma famous, though, was its ability to change its theme based on the app you’re using. In 3.0, you’ll have a few more options for theming including background gradients and 3D key borders.
Beyond these, Chrooma has added two major new features in this update. The first is the “Action Row” which adds a number row, emoji row, and toolbar above your keys. To access each simply swipe the bar to access the one you want to use. Personally I’d say the toolbar is the most useful.
Secondly, this update adds integration with Google Now. Before you get too excited, let’s make it clear: this is nothing like GBoard or Slash Keyboard. Rather, this update allows you to quickly search whatever you’re typing on Google. Simply type out a phrase, swipe up from the space bar, and the app will open up relevant search results.
