Moto E3 officially announced, coming to the UK for just £99

Back when Motorola was Motorola, the company had 3 major smartphone releases each year, the Moto X, the Moto G, and the smaller, cheaper Moto E. This year things have proved a bit different with the release of the Moto G4 and G4 Plus along with the new Moto Z, but today the company has released a new successor to the Moto E, the Moto E3.

Starting at just £99 ($132 USD), the Moto E3 undercuts the Moto G4 considerably without dropping too many specs in turn. The E3 has a 5-inch, 720p display with an unnamed quad-core processor, Android Marshmallow out of the box, an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, along with a 2800mAh battery to run the show.

In terms of design the Moto E3 pulls from the same design language as the Moto G4, but with the addition of a speaker on the bottom bezel. The Moto E3 is also “splash-proof,” likely using Motorola’s nano-coating tech which has been found on many of its devices in the past.

Motorola/Lenovo have yet to reveal some of the specifications such as storage, RAM, or carrier support, but that should all become clear later this year when the E3 releases in September. For now it seems the device will be exclusive to the UK with retailers such as Tesco, Amazon, Argos, O2, and several others offering the phone for sale.

Alongside this announcement, Motorola has also launched the Moto G4 Play, another mid-range option starting at a slightly higher £129. This device comes with another 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 410 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and another 2800mAh battery. It’s likely that this device differs from the E3 in terms of chipset and RAM, but we’ll have to wait and see for that.

The Moto G4 Play will go on sale next month from Carphone Warehouse, Amazon, JLP, and other retailers for £129.
