After being announced at IFA 2016 ─ and following a brief period of exclusivity at Verizon ─ the Moto Z Play is now available unlocked for $449…

The Moto Z Play brings a lot of the best of the Moto Z family, but in a more affordable package. For $449 the Z Play brings a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, Snapdragon 625 processor, and 3GB of RAM. The slightly lower-end specifications combined with the massive 3,510 mAh battery help the Moto Z Play live up to Lenovo’s claim of 50 hours of battery life.

Other changes from the standard Moto Z include a fully glass back and the return of the 3.5mm headphone jack.

On paper the Moto Z Play is a pretty solid value for the money, especially given its insane battery life, however, the most important part of the price is that it lowers the barrier of entry to get into the Moto Mod ecosystem. The Z Play is compatible with all of the same Mods as the Z and Z Force, but at over $200 cheaper. .

Motorola’s website still lists the unlocked Z Play as a pre-order, but you can pick it up now from Amazon, B&H, or Best Buy. Keep in mind of course that this model is GSM only, Verizon customers will have to stick with the DROID Edition.
