Earlier this year, Sony announced that the Xperia X would be the latest handset to be compatible with the company’s “Concept” build of Android. Now, that same phone has become the first phone — besides the Pixel and Nexus devices, of course — to get Android 7.1.1…
The new release, specifically Android 7.1.1 Nougat MR1, is said to have build number 38.3.A.0.41 (via Xperia Blog). New features in this version include the restart button when holding down the power button (as we saw on the Pixel), faster startup for the camera app, and and the December 1st security patch. Sony has also reportedly added PlayStation 4 PS4 Remote Play with this release.
It’s worth noting, however, that this update isn’t yet rolling out to all owners of the Xperia X — that will come later in an update to the official software. If you live in Europe, you can head to the Play Store to grab the Concept Installer for your Xperia X. This specific release requires you to be on the “Experimental” release track.
In related news, Samsung recently came out to say that Android 7.1.1 Nougat should be coming to a slew of its most popular devices this month.
