When posting to Instagram Stories, one secret to better-looking content is to upload pre-recorded videos. But with Instagram limiting clips to 15 seconds, you can’t just upload a long-form video. Thankfully, there is an app that cuts everything up into clips pretty easily.
How to split up long pre-recorded videos on Android to upload to Instagram Stories
- Download Story Cutter
- Upload a video
- Share clips to Instagram
1. Download Story Cutter
The app we are featuring in this Android Basics tutorial is called Story Cutter developed by Insocial8. The app itself can be downloaded for free from the Play Store, but there is an in-app purchase that lets you cut videos into different lengths. While you’ll need to hand over a couple of bucks to unlock the 15-second segment cutter, I think the default 10-second option works just fine for Stories.
2. Upload a video
Next, open Story Cutter and either choose to record a video within the app (not recommended) or select a video from your gallery. Then pick your desired video clip length. The app will take several minutes to convert the video. When done, Story Cutter will save the new 10 or 15 second videos to your phone and offer to show you the shortened clips. You can exit this, and move onto the next step.
3. Share clips to Instagram
Now, open up the Instagram app and swipe over to the Story creator. Tap on the gallery icon in the bottom left corner and find your new clips.
Don’t forget, Instagram added the ability to upload multiple videos and or photos simultaneously just a couple months ago. Using this, you can easily share each of the 15-second clips at one time instead of repeatedly jumping into the Story uploader.
