The Galaxy Ring has been on the fingers of many since its launch a couple of months ago, and it’s just now receiving what is reportedly its first software update.
At launch, it was evidently clear that the Galaxy Ring would bring much less than initially anticipated, positioned as a mostly capable smart ring that would only truly shine connected to a paired Galaxy Watch. The Galaxy Ring proves to be a minimal and effective smart ring that incorporates itself well enough into Samsung’s ecosystem, though it would be nice to see an expanded feature set.
According to RydahDoesTech on Twitter/X, Samsung is currently rolling out an update for the Galaxy Ring. For those hoping that the update brings some significant additions to what the Galaxy Ring offers, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The Galaxy Ring update is minimal, totaling 0.64MB and bringing simple stability and reliability fixes. According to the changelog, the Bluetooth connection has been stabilized, and “Samsung Health has been improved.” The latter portion is a little less clear, but it likely means that the connection and interpolation of data from the Galaxy Ring into the Samsung Health app has been bolstered.
The update as a whole is minimal but likely necessary for a functioning Galaxy Ring. It’ll be interesting to see if Samsung brings more features to the first-gen wearable down the line to compete with other brands.
