The Fitbit Luxe is nearly out of stock

Announced in April of 2021, the Fitbit Luxe is very close to being out of stock around the world.

The Fitbit Luxe launched as a premium fitness tracker given its use of stainless steel (versus plastic) for a bulbous, jewelry-like design in Graphite and a shiny Soft Gold or Platinum (silver). It was the first Fitbit tracker with color AMOLED instead of white text on a black background.

On the health side, sensors allow for Active Zone Minutes, SpO2 (Oxygen Saturation), and sleep stages. There’s no GPS so it has to be paired with your phone. Other specs include a 5-day battery and 50m water resistance.

As of today, the Fitbit Luxe is not available at various US retailers, including Best Buy and Target. The base price with a rubber band is $149.95  The US Google Store (and Amazon) only sell the $199.95 variant that comes with a premium metal bracelet. Google Stores around the world list it as out of stock, while most alternate bands are gone.

At over 3.5 years, the Fitbit Luxe is due for retirement. I greatly enjoyed using the device for its more premium feel, with the always-on display very convenient. It’s appreciably more compact than the Charge, with that difference quite noticeable when worn for sleep tracking.

The Luxe did not get the last Inspire 3 firmware update in July that added 20 new exercise modes, auto-workout recognition (for running, walking, biking, elliptical, rowing, and spinning), and better heart rate tracking during exercise thanks to machine learning advancements.

Without the Luxe, this leaves the Fitbit tracker lineup with three wearables, led by the $160 Charge 6 that was announced last year. The $100 Fitbit Inspire 3 remains the entry device, while Google still sells the $80 Fitbit Ace 3 for kids.

As of today, the only Fitbit tracker I feel certain has a future is the popular Charge series, while there’s also a case for the sub-$100 tracker.
