At the beginning of the year, OnePlus added the option to replace the standard on-screen navigation buttons for gestures in a OnePlus 5T beta. The company has kept these around and is officially bringing them with the OnePlus 6. Here’s how to enable the gesture-based navigation controls.
How to enable gesture navigation on the OnePlus 6
- Settings
- Buttons
- Navigation bar and gestures
As always in these sorts of Android Basics tutorials, the first step is to jump into the phone’s Settings menu. To do this, pull down on the notification shade and tap on the gear icon. Next, locate the option of Buttons. Lastly, choose Navigation bar and gestures.
In this new menu, you have three options to choose from including the last one that is labeled Navigation gestures. After selecting this, your on-screen controls will slide away, and you’ll be free to start using the gestures.
Below is a quick rundown on how the different gestures work:
- Go home: Swipe straight up from the middle of the bottom of the screen. This should take you to your home screen from within any menu or application
- Go back: Swipe straight up from the left or right third of the bottom of the screen. This will take you back one step
- Recent app switcher: Swipe straight up from the middle of the bottom of the screen and hold for a second. After several moments, the app switcher will appear with a list of previously opened apps
