Some Pixel 8 buyers are still seeing janky, stuttering scrolling; are you? [Poll]

Google’s Pixel lineup has struggled with a random issue where some apps will appear to have scrolling issues. With the new Pixel 8 series, that janky, stuttering scrolling is still around, but it’s still not affecting users consistently.

With last year’s launch of the Pixel 7 series, some early buyers found that Google’s new phones would stutter through certain apps, especially with Reddit and some other social media apps. It was, at the time, a very inconsistent problem but one that Google was aiming to fix. In February, the company came out to say that it was well aware of the problem and that it was planning to fix it. Android 13’s second maintenance release seemed to fix the issue for most folks.

But, now that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have launched, a new series of complaints has hit the web.

Several threads on Reddit talk about stuttering scrolling on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, and it’s been noted in some reviews as well. The issue still doesn’t have much consistency to it, though, with users seeing it in some apps, but others not seeing the same behavior despite using the same apps. The official Reddit app (now basically the only Reddit app) is one of the most common complaints, which makes sense given where most of these reports are stemming from and the fact that Reddit’s official app is pretty notorious for weird scrolling issues. However, the same behavior is noted throughout X/Twitter, YouTube, the Google Discover feed, the Play Store, Instagram, and many more, which really makes it seem like something is going on here.

Personally, I’ve not noticed any janky or stuttering scrolling on my Pixel 8 Pro in the few weeks I’ve had it.

The real questions are – is there a fix, and are you affected?

Google does mention on a page regarding the current Android 14 QPR1 beta that there was a fix applied for stuttering scrolling, but that fix is not device-specific, nor does it have anything to do with existing stable builds of Android 14. So, at this point, there’s no real word on whether Google is working on any improvements here.
