The Motorola Razr+ is about to get a sequel, but still hasn’t gotten an Android 14 update

Motorola is set to launch a new Razr foldable in the next month or two, but the original Motorola Razr+ still hasn’t gotten its Android 14 update over 7 months after it debuted.

Google released Android 14 on October 4, 2023. In the time since the update has become widely available on Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus, and many other Android smartphones and tablets. However, the update has barely made its way out to any Motorola devices.

Motorola confirmed through support pages as far back as January that it would be rolling out Android 14 to a select number of devices released over the past few years. However, the company has made virtually no progress on that. The Motorola Razr+, arguably the company’s most prominent Android smartphone, has not yet been updated to Android 14 in any capacity despite the length of time since Google released the update.

It’s not as though Motorola doesn’t offer support for the device. The company confirmed that it would offer “three major Android updates and four years of security patches” over the course of Razr+’s lifespan, but it’s clear that customers will be left waiting for any major updates.

What makes that especially frustrating is that it’s not stopping Motorola’s newer releases. Leaks this week revealed that Razr+ (2024) will ship with Android 14, and Motorola has also used the newer update on other new releases. The company has even pushed Android 14 to some of its Edge phones internationally.

What’s the hold-up? Your guess is as good as ours. But this isn’t the first time Motorola has delayed software updates for a Razr, and it’s certainly something to keep in mind when the sequel drops.
