Gemini in Google Messages sends out welcome message

In addition to a dedicated FAB, another way Google Messages is encouraging Gemini usage is through a welcome message.

In the past day or so, Gemini sent out a welcome message that appeared as a standard notification from the app: “Hi, I’m Gemini in Google Messages. Chat with me to draft messages, brainstorm ideas, plan events or simply have a fun conversation.”

It appears to have been sent out en masse to people that have yet to use the chatbot in the RCS/SMS client.

You can of course disable it entirely from Settings > Gemini in Messages > Show Gemini button. This will archive the Gemini conversation. Meanwhile, Google went back to using the small FAB for the Gemini button instead of one equal to the size of “Start chat.”
