LG G Watch rumored to be given away to developers at Google I/O 2014

Every year at Google I/O the company gives away a few gadgets to the attendees of the event. Last year, Google gave away the $1,500 Chromebook Pixel to attendees, among other things. According to a report from Android Authority, Google this year plans to give out the LG G Watch for free to all the people in attendance.

Android Wear is expected to be a big talking point at I/O this year, and given that the G Watch is essentially the reference device for the program, it makes sense that Google would want to give it away to developers to entice them to build apps for it. Motorola is also expected to be at Google I/O this year to show off its Moto 360 smartwatch.

LG has been teasing the G Watch like crazy recently. The company most recently teased the all-metal body of the watch, as well as its waterproof design. LG claims that the watch “defines the smartwatch,” although an official release date is still up in the air.

While Android Authority is not the most reliable source, it does seem likely that Google will give away a wearable this year at I/O, and give the close relationship between the two companies, it makes sense for it to be the LG G Watch.

Google I/O is slated to kick off on June 25th in San Francisco, and we’ll have all the news straight of the event when the time comes.
