Since its inception, one of the biggest pitfalls of Google Voice has been its lack of MMS support. In an era of time when nearly everyone has a smartphone, not being able to share videos and pictures with counterparts was a huge feature gap. This evening, however, Google employee Alex Wiesen announced on Google+ that Voice now supports MMS on more than a 100 North American carriers.
Wiesen says that AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Bell Canada, Rogers, Telus, and many more have signed on to support the feature. Noticeably missing from that list, however, is Verizon and its absence is not a mistake. While users on the other big three carriers are able to MMS via Google Voice, Verizon customers are left out in the dark. Wiesen says that Google will continue to work with any carriers that want to add support to Google Voice MMS.

Early reports from users show that the feature is working relatively well, although with a few occasional glitches. Some Reddit users note that when you send an MMS from Google Voice to a carrier phone, it sends a link that the person must click, but when you send an image from a carrier phone to Google Voice, the actual picture is sent. For instances in which a link is required, some users are reporting that it takes a decent amount of time for the image to load.
Wiesen promises a lot more updates to Google Voice messaging in the future, so we can only assume that MMS support will get better from here on out.
